The "American Branch" of The Spectator caught my eye. I had always been a fan of The American Spectator, going back to the Emmett Tyrrell days. I see Spectator USA was launched in 2018. Both of them still going strong, though now exclusively in online format. I've seen other indications that conservatives hold the high ground in digital communications.
Very true. I observed this at two universities on two continents where I taught for 40+ years and scores of others that I visited on four continents. There are some classical liberals but they are being weeded out as the ideologues employ their own kind. Most faculty and students who don't agree hide their views and share them only with friends. Students have to do this in order to get good grades, faculty in order not be shunned and not to lose opportunities. Their silence comes across as indifference although it may not be:
A friend from high school and a friend from grad school both became university professors years ago. Originally, they rarely expressed political opinions at all. Now? Both have been thoroughly radicalized by their years in academia.
Their obsession with Trump is nearly total. When one got into my car at the airport last Christmas, the second sentence out of her mouth (after "It's so good to see you!") was "You didn't vote for Trump, did you?".
Toni, can you explain why liberals tend to be more pro-Palestinian and conservatives tend to be more pro-Israel? Can you recommend any writers or books or websites that explore this phenomenon and might help me understand it better? I used to be thoroughly a democrat and my whole family was but now I’m much more conservative and it feels so strange to me - but I find conservatives very, very comforting, reassuring, and understanding or supportive towards Jews in Israel!!
Many Democrats fall for the Marxist European settler-colonialism screeds.
Since totalitarianism has moved to the Middle East and Asia, the only “white “ people left are the Jews.
Israel is the only democracy in a sea of totalitarianism. Success breads jealousy so they must be colonialists . But G_d’s original covenant was with the Jews so they are the indigenous peoples.
Most Israelis are born in Israel so they are not all European.
Twenty %of the Israelis population is Arab -Israeli citizens.
Most Democrats are naive of the above facts through ignorance or Jew hatred.
We understand the existential threat Israel lives under. Many of us have read the Koran. And the Hadith. A left wing buddy went into business. Within five years he had become quite right wing. For him it was the left dominated bureaucracy looking for ways to stop people doing things. Many of us are thinkers and doers. When you think and read you realize Israel has a right to exist. Islam will not let it. We know that is wrong.
We tend to be thinkers because in this society default is left. You have to think your way to the right.
We also listen and know should Islam win with Israel, it won’t end there. ‘Globalize the Intifada’ means kill the Jews, then the Christians.
Just look at the Columbia University Core Curriculum reading list. They basically stop with Marx and explain everything in terms of European settler-colonialism.
I have been a professor and then a department chair and PhD program director for many years in two medical schools and have visited many universities to give scientific research presentations or participate in review committee deliberations. I never observed any partisan bias, politically motivated or religious bias behavior. We focused on a shared dedication to scientific research and inquiry and were of the opinion that medical science should be our focus not personal views. However, the professors referred to teach undergraduates not PhDs and MDs in medical schools. There are some professors who will cross the line by expressing opinions inappropriately but very rare that “indoctrination” is occurring. However, it does seem clear that at some universities this practice of focusing on teaching objectively is broken and has become a free for all.
The Oct 7 holocaust and upheaval by anti-Israel, anti-American, and antisemitic violent protests was a shock for me and most of us to observe. It would be unfortunate to think that all professors will not stand up for conservative values. The media and political parties thrive on this kind of fake news.
Oct 8, if you haven’t seen the movie by that name I urge you to do see it. Oct 8 and beyond is a huge topic which is painful for me to think about . It’s true that many if not most Jewish professors feel abandoned by many of their progressive colleagues. It’s also true that there is a contingent of Jewish professors who hold anti-Israel government political views (but are NOT antisemitic), and small group may mix those views up with a rationalization of horrendous barbarism by Hamas and its ilk. How such folks can think that way is a challenging question to answer. I have zero insight into that one. Also there are manny many Muslim professors and students and staff who are pro-Israel and pro Jewish. They are horrified and are strongly against Hamas.
It’s a complex issue but it isn’t true that no professors voice conservative views. I do think that there is a silent majority of well meaning professors who are shocked by what they see happening.

Not the college experience I had (But that was the 70's) How did we drop the ball and allow this to happen! Very scary!

When folk hit me with that comment, "You didn't vote for Trump, did you?" I respond, "You mean you didn't???"
+100
Kind of like some sort of animal behaviour like smelling your behind.the Democrats don’t see their behaviour as dog-like but maybe it’s OCD.
They are as scarce as Republicans in the Ivy League or white guys at a Kardashian wedding.
Well, I'd imagine that most of us who would march daily in support of Israel have something that the terrorist wannabes very much lack.
Jobs. We have jobs.
Someone (you?) Should look at the DEI workforce. I bet it is one of the least diverse workforce in existence.
A pro child murder Professor would be a disgusting thing indeed.

Toni, please, can you recommend people or books or anything that explains or explores why left-wing people support Palestinians and conservatives

The kids don’t have a chance.

I’m one.
